Beaubien Time travel has made the Edge of Time a dangerous place To protect the Edge of Time from the disastrous alterations of time travelers the Aeon Legion seeks the greatest soldiers and warriors from the most bloody war torn eras in history Those they deem worthy gain a chance to compete in the toughest training program ever designedTerra Mason a plain eighteen year old girl from the modern United States has an impressive stu. I found out about this author and book through his YouTube channel of bad writing advice which unlike the name suggests is good writing advice Lots of sarcasm and wit making fun of standard tropes in many different genres though typically YA What attracted me most about this book was the synposis and the twist of the third paragaph Typically you ll see the monoamorous couples described with each having their own paragraph but no he s a Nazi he s her enemy and that s hilarious Although the synopsis is a bit misleading as at no point does Hanns ever try proving Nazis were heroes nor was he all that confused about people referring to him as a monster He just a normal Nazi who thought what he was doing was just and that Germany should winPerhaps I inadvertantly led myself to have higher than usual expectations but the book is rathernot good It just feels a bit awkward since I feel the uality of his videos is so high it s a bit of a surprise to see this book written as it isIt starts off in a library with our heroine Terra coming face to face with the Nazi antagonist of the book Hanns The awkward wording kind of threw me off It gets going immediately which was a little jarring but otherwise would ve been okay if it wasn t so telly instead of showyI thought perhaps only this first initial scene would ve been like that which would ve been rather interesting to see play out We get told the action and find out the characters perspectives on it later But no this trend persists the entirety of the book It s 100% telling and not showing That s one of the biggest and most well known trope of bad writing of all I m just shocked that the author had this problemIt s frustrating in general to read a book that tells you everything without showing but it feels all the frustrating coming from someone who gives out writing advice and good advice at thatSo much happens to our main character but we never get any sort of real reaction from her There is a sentence or a couple words here and there but nothing that feels impactful emotional genuine or lastingShe s approached by Silverwind a protector of time with a job offer of monumental proportions guarding time itself And how does she react Barely at all Perhaps a little shocked confused but other than that I have no idea I m not even told thatShe ends up accepting the offer of course and I was curious to see how the author would handle the parents ButI am a bit confused Terra literally tells her parents what she s doing and we never see their reaction They were apparently okay with it and she sends them an update after she leaves on her ventures then later comes home at the end like it s no big deal and her parents are just chill with it I know it s a little detail and YAs are NOTORIOUS for dropping the parents but this was such adrop Just a weird way to go about itThe main character in general is mind boggling ignorant and plain stupid She s always shocked of every new piece of information she hears regardless if it should come at a surprise any It s like she doesn t have the ability to remember things or logically deduce thingsTerra Blinked A thousand years You re that oldVita sighed Why do they always find that surprisingTerra knew the Saturnians were older than they appeared but she had no idea they were that oldYou were literally told that those people were immortal and you re just as shocked every time you hear someone s ageTerra just looked confusedTerra raised an eyebrow I m confusedLiterally one sentence in between separates thatMost of the descriptions in this book stem from the environment or the appearances of people As an example the character Lycus We re introduced with him mostly being in shadow glaring eyes and when he smiles that wolf like grin as we re reminded every time he smiles which is often it creeps Terra out But why Just what was it that made him so immediately scary to her We re told she s afraid of him and that she tries her best to avoid him but we re never told why What is her thought process behind her fear What aspects of him what sort of presence does he give off that s so frightening We re constantly told he s scary and intimidating without actually seeing him do anything scary or intimdating view spoilerAt least not until a bit later but that doesn t excuse the nagging reminders of it earlier with nothing to back them up or explain them I did enjoy the concept of his three faces though each with their own name and personality but it bothered me to have so many characters mis naming him while he was in his Lycus face form whateveryoucallit hide spoiler

Aeon Legion

SUMMARY Aeon Legion READ & DOWNLOAD Ã Aeon Legion CHARACTERS ↠ E-book, or Kindle E-pub ¸ J.P. Beaubien D charming a genius inventor of a time travel machine and a dedicated member of the Nazi Party Yet he cannot understand why people from the future regard him and his fellow Nazis as monsters Now he must use his charisma and cunning to challenge the seemingly invincible Aeon Legion and its monopoly on time travel He will not uit Hanns will steal history itself if he has to mistakenly believing it will prove him to be a her. Warning This review contains spoilersRight off the bat I just want to say I really enjoyed reading this bookI liked the main character and her transformationcharacter development throughout the book was well executed I was very impressed and honestly uite enthralled by the world building The author managed to portray time travel as a real practical science and eternal youth as a plausible and attainable possibility The rules of both are pretty clear cut but don t seem trivial or arbitrary The entire city and Legion are meticulously planned with an attention to detail that reminds me of George R R Martin but thankfully this book didn t introduce as many characters as he doesThe pacing for most of the novel was also good though to be honest I got bored during the interval between the battle at the library in the beginning and Alya coming to recruit Terra at her uarry I know this part is meant to show what Terra s life is like in her home continuum and just how average and mundane her life is but it bored me nontheless The story really picked up for me when the Tirones training started The tasks they were meant to perform were well described and exciting and I found the idea of being able to replicate any kind of terrain weather buildings and even people using salients a very captivating concept The Academy teachers were cool too esp Nikias and sometimes it was like they were just messing with the recruits for fun I found the part where Nikias and co try to ambush Terra in the Academy after her meeting with Lycus uite funnyNow let s come to the vill wait Are they really villains Hanns and Kairos They themsleves don t think so at all Hanns believes he is doing a service for his country while Kairos thinks mindbogglingly that entire worlds need to be ended along with thousands if not millions of lives to save Time itself Both seem to be doing things not for personal gain but what they truly perceive to be the greater good This is another theme that is interwoven through the whole story Who are heroes and villains really Are they just born that way or do they become like that over time How do you know you ve become a villain or hero The story doesn t really give us a clear answer but encourages us to form our own opinion on the matter as Alya does with TerraComing to the writing style I have to say that I overall enjoy Beaubien s writing though I wish he would include a bit of the thoughts and feelings of the protagonist But I do think I understand why he refrained from doing that see section on Terra Mason There were a few typos and grammatical mistakes that I noticed and found slightly annoying but what bothered me than this was the lack of contractions in the dialogue The dialogues seemed like they were from a movie script and not coming from the mouths of actual peopleTerra MasonTerra s main ualities are STUBBORN or determined depending on point of view blunt strong sense of morality and justice observent extremely in control of her emotions an honestly unrealistic tolerance for pain brave if not almost fearless if the Trial of Fear is anything to judge byTerra is the story s protagonist who nearly every character in the story underestimes And for good reason She is not exceptionally smart good looking strong or talented She has an overall average skill set but we are told from the start it s because she never truly TRIES to achieve greatness until she joins the training program I think it s because all the people in her life excluding her parents and Mr Smith the very disposable history teacher ignored her or just downright bullied her Terra is very reserved but not unfriendly She values friendship loyalty and honesty the most which is why she dislikes Roland so much The confusing bit about her is that I can t really point out any major flaws about her other than 1 her obstinacy which usually isn t a problem because she isn t unreasonable and unnecessarily disobedient like Hikari and 2 her astonishing lack of emotion in some scenes Case in point Zaid s death Sure his death weighs heavily on her when she s still in the Labyrinth but after the storm has passed she doesn t really mourn It s like she s taken all of the grief she felt about Zaid s death and locked it in a vault in her mind This girl is a Severus Snape level Occlumens A master at suppressing her emotions Why is that I think because whenever she showed strong emotions during her childhood throwing a rock at Val and crying in front of her mother afterwards the result was always negative The other kids began to fear her and avoid her even and her mother yelled at her My favourite scene of Terra s arguably my favorite scene in the whole book was when she faced the Captain during the Trial of Worth What she said was really inspiring and something I think everyone should remember Greatness can come from anywhere and if you really want something and are willing to put in the work you can achieve it However the real obstacle comes when no one believes in you It makes you doubt your worth makes you second guess whether or not you are really good enough to achieve the greatness that you seek In times such as these YOU must believe in yourself and persevere It s a very good message especially for young adults There is also a notable lack of love interests for Terra which isn t all that surprising given her character traits but still uite anomalous considering the main character is a teenage girl in a sci fi thrillerHanns Speer A brilliant German scientist from the time of Nazi Germany who fervently believes his country is destined for greatness and is willing to do anything to help achieve that objective Or is he Hanns is the character immediately introduced after Terra and is also one of the two characters mentioned in the blurb Keeping this in mind he gets a disproportionately less amount of coverage in the book In between stretches of terrible trials that Terra must tolerate we see a glimpse of what Hanns is up to Though it was insightful by that point I almost forgot he even existed A little background info for Hanns would ve been nice and a look at just how he was managing his time travel project would have also been appreciated Just throwing in a Hanns POV chapter from out of nowhere really felt weird when I was reading itHanns is a very well rounded character He s cunning charming patriotic but also smug and fooled by his own hubris He wants to be a hero to his country and though is willing to lie and steal to get what he wants is unwilling to maim and murder innocent people That doesn t show him in a very good light but considering most of the established heroes in the story have killed tens of thousands of people already it s just an interesting contrast I find him to be a compelling antagonist and I hope to see of him in the next bookAlya SilverwindBeautiful powerful rebelious and kind Alya is portrayed as the ideal superhero in the beginning However she is also one of the deadliest members of the Legion with the highest confirmed kills and the lesser known title of Bloodstorm She has her moments of seriousness and wisdom but is usually shown to be playful and cheerful I liked her character but never really developed an attachment to herLycus CerberusThis guy was just amazing He was the one character that always made me sit up straight and pay attention to what was happening Lycus is the brutal and slightly deranged head of the training programme Though he appears absolutely monstrous in the eyes of the tirones he is respected by all his fellow legionnaires I found his three faces the Captain the beast and the scholar very compelling and the connections between his three personas his alias Cerberus the three time cores on his aeon edge and his role as guardian of the gates was also appreciated Somehow the mix of violence and caring in his personality justworked I didn t expect to get as much attached to him as I did and then he DIED Face palm I did not see that coming Justphenomenal characterisationRoland DelmareArguably the most entertaining character in the book Roland is a charming yet unabashedly unscrupulous knight whose only reason for joining the Legion is to get immortality Pretty straight forward right Well not uite He also appears to have some kind of tragic backstory that I desperately want to know about and strongly dislikes Terra in the beginning because she is the only one who can see past his mask which is as much as if not than a weapon for him as his sword He is also sarcastic funny and manipulative though usually not in a vindictive way which makes him really fun to read The author did a good job at keeping him in character till the end but the strange thing is that most of his acts of selflessness or bravery are carried out at the behest of Terra He seems to trust her very uickly after that heart to heart he had with her in the Trial of War even going so far as to leave the Labyrinth trials unfinished to help her catch a criminal following her to an unknown time and trying to rescue her from Kairos all at the risk of losing his life andor immortality Pretty big leap character wise Potential friend Potential love interest I dunno let s just read the next book when it arrives and find outHikari UrashimaHikari was also an interesting character extremely talented and badass though I didn t like her nearly as much as Roland How could I when she s either beating people up esp our protagonist outright insulting people for no valid reason or challenging people to duels just to prove that she s better than them sigh It was really very hard to dredge up any empathy for her becauseher abilities just seemed so unrealistic and her personality so caustic I felt such satisfaction when Terra finally stood up to her during the Trial of Blades I still don t really like her character but I don t dislike her eithershe just came off as mean spirited and uninspiring and if she had died at any point I wouldn t have felt any sadnessZaidZaid was one guy I really liked and I suspect it s got a lot to do with the fact that we mostly only see him when he s showing his dedication to the team by training them or showing his pragmatism and good leadership ualities when leading them He is clearly honest caring and a loyal team leader However I wish there had been moments where we see him cement his friendship with Terra It would have made his death painful and jarring for the reader I wasn t surprised though when he died the Sybil s prophecy spoiled it for meMiscellaneous uestions and thoughts How does Minerva control the birthrate in Saturn City It s mentioned in the book that the city s demographics are stagnant But near the beginning Vita mentions there s a baby lottery That means that babies are being born And the only way to keep the demographics stagnant would be for an eual amount of deaths to balance out the births So whenever a Saturnian dies a baby is allowed to be born If using a Restore essentially brings a healthy uninjured copy of yourself back through time why doesn t it affect your mental state or memories The brain is also part of the body so wouldn t Restore be like a reset button on your memories How can sonic ciphers translate both ways I imagined them like hearing aids and it wasn t until I read the appendix that I realised they are meant to work both ways How did Terra convince her parents to let her join the time police Beth and Fred seem pretty chill about the fact that their only child is leaving to join an army of immortals Why does the Legion use dust outs to guard Tartarus Shouldn t the prison be guarded by people that the legion deems competent After all it does contain convincted criminals vicious beasts and dangerous technology It s already a risk keeping all of this crazily dangerous stuff INSIDE their treasured utopia so why take any chances with security Do the tirones not get any time for leisure and recreation I think tirones are allowed to visit the other sectors of the City but we never see Terra do that The mental and physical stress they are already under in the Academy is extraordinary so why isn t it ever mentioned that some tirones go off to the Convivium or somewhere to let off steam Does Kairos already know Terra is Alya s new suire I am convinced she does She was the one who left a white rose in Terra s hair when she came to steal Terra s ID from her shieldwatch White the opposite of black And the type of flower a rose This is such blatant foreshadowing Kairos knows that the Legion is going to send their best Legionnaire to try and stop her and who better than the latest prot g of Alya Silverwind And since she stole Terra s ID wouldn t she be able to find out who suired her from Terra s own records They even give Terra Kairos s blade after reforging it The hints are so in your face it almost makes me think the author is going to make someone else kill Kairos just to subvert our expectations Is it possible for a suire to just not tryout for the Legion s training programme I think they have to try at least once or else Roland might never have even gone to the Academy What exactly are the Kings and ueens of time and how did they rule all of Time Is that even possible Were they all related Could than one King and ueen rule at one time

SUMMARY Aeon Legion READ & DOWNLOAD Ã Aeon Legion CHARACTERS ↠ E-book, or Kindle E-pub ¸ J.P. Beaubien Bborn streak Her persistence and bravery gains the notice and sponsorship of one of the Aeon Legion's greatest heroines Now Terra must turn that stubbornness into determination if she is to contend with history's finest soldiers and somehow pass the Aeon Legion's final test the mysterious Labyrinth She will not uit Terra will prove that even someone as average as her can still be a heroineHanns Speer is polite good nature. This book was written by the Terrible Writing Advice guy on Youtube After reading this book I can say that he followed his own advice up to the part where the plot is neededI ll give you a brief blurb Terra attacks time travelling Nazis and becomes a famous time knight s suire Then uh Terra goes to school and there are Nazis What are the stakes Terra doesn t become a soldier and a Nazi might discover his country s horrid crimes which honestly sounds awesome by the way ALTHOUGH I did enjoy the school The pacing was brisk and the shit happening was interesting and they had the best fucking teacher and I love himSo what are we left with The world and the characters And to be honest those were well done Sure the description of Saturn city was lacking and I understood nothing of its geography but the technology history and wars the Legion s numerous enemies did build a pretty complete image BUT where this book really shines is with its characters I can honest to God say that you have never seen and won t be seeing these characters again Soon anyway It doesn t mean that they re great or three dimensional characters by any means but they are uniue enough for it to be notedMC Terra Mason is a bored girl who wants a goal worthy of her attention She s enduring blunt and down to earth but not enough to think that heroes can t exist and that doing the right thing doesn t matter She ll help people in need but leave them if they can handle themselvesRoland is the love interest I think when you have it that you can t tell if a love interest is in the room it deserves a comment like this is god level writing He s a knight who lies and cheats but he has real skills and talent Hikari is a martial artist who wants a sword and by god she s going to get it even if it means fighting the whole schoolThere are but you get the idea These guys all have their own little uirks attitude and way of speaking that makes them all stand out and I love it Like Terra clicked with me than any other heroine since Angelfall in an actual oh this is totally me way not oh this is a blank sheet way Seriously my personality is like 75% Terra except that I m actually smart and funny and single guys hit me upYeaaaahh this is Maberan s reviews of course there s negatives duh Just like this book has pretty uniue positives it has pretty uniue negativesOK so Terra kept saying what the reader should ve understanding from her actions and words I don t know if that has a name but an example is Terra always getting back up No matter how many times people berate her or kick her she s always getting back on her feet That s actually something I love in MCs and I was glad to finally see a female protagonist like thatBut then there s literally a scene where a character is like I guess being good at this is your talent uh and Terra deadass turns to the camera and says no my only talent is never knowing when to give up Like we can t tell LIKE DUDE You re the TWA guy You should know you don t just SAY what you want the readers to think about a character You let the character be themselves and have the readers understand them through their actions and words as you did with Terra until this fucking scene There s also the same thing with Terra being like a rock which is actually shown from the start and then suddenly you get this horrible chapter in the middle of the story about her backstory and it Gave Me Vietnam flashbacks I DID NOT NEED TO SEE THATEdit I saw a review where the reader said it was very weird how emotionless Terra was and that he enjoyed this chapter for the backstory and it s weird because that s literally what happened in my childhood Terra suppressed her emotions just like I did because people were picking on her for being different and the adults did nothing Reading that chapter was just painful because I saw all my old caretakers and it made me see red This kind of thing really puts characters and writing into perspective doesn t itAlso there were these subversion of expectations that I could see ten miles from here and it s really weird because it s like these random little moments during training Like Terra fails a test or something maybe gets called out by a teacher or Roland comes by to berate her then comes his turn and Terra s like oh finally Roland will be getting some and then gasp he succeedsLike I m very confused as to how obvious these all managed to be Because this isn t hard But they all failed And I am left bemusedAnd then there s the whole Nazi thing So Terra mets this Hanns guy from 1940 and he s all we are ze best and she s like dude nazis are the worst thing ever and they meet uite a few times and I thought it was this really cool red thread with how enemies perceive each other and the difference between a hero and a villain and when you can tell which one you re which Like Terra grows each time she meets Hanns and that relationship she has with him fits with the goal that pushed to join the legion and the doubts the Captain raised in her about the Aeon Legion being no better than any other armyBut then it just putters out Like instead of showing him the things the Nazis have done will do or give him dates and try to understand his point of view she s just dude hitler is evil you are disgusting how can you not see that and he obviously shrugs her accusations off as propagandaLike I could do a better job than that She just insults him and expects that to change his mindflashback to a video by JdGtalking about a live action show of the ninja turtles with a 5th turtle with the power to turn people good with one call outJdG Bc I mean you don t need the turtles You save the world with that power5th turtle figurine You re evil It s not good to be evilHitlerKen doll Oh my Shneider I see it now diesend flashbackLol But erm let s get back to the book So yeah at first I though that Terra would make a parallel between her and Hanns and the Captain and the Aeon Legion but nope She just keeps on being thick headed and refuses to see Hanns side to try and connect with him and open him up to her own side of things Like you do know that a big part of the German population didn t know about the atrocities they committed right Would you hate them too Hanns is no better than that and you could make him see what s about to happen and at least try to make him stop trying to time travel but nopeIs it because he s a Nazi I don t think so because the author does portray him in a better light than the SS or other members of the party I think it s because that s going to happen in the seuel is there one lol I don t know I just want logicAnd I mean Terra is also pretty uh what s the word like a dude says he s Muslim and she s immediately like I m not wearing a burua bro and he s like wat and she s like omg you re Muslim and you actually respect women LIKE DUDE WOW I thought I was little bit too hateful of the good old Allahu Akbar but that s just made me feel a lot better about myself geez And there s all this bullshit with Roland just like waiting and observing people fail a test so he can learn from their mistakes and somehow that makes him the worst person ever Oh and there s also a part where she s told that her friends went ahead of her because if they hadn t they would ve been dead and she also sees that as a major betrayal like dude they were firing rockets at them geezAnd there s also this test they go through where they view spoilerget captured and tortured by their own people and it s treated as this big how could you but THERE S LITERALLY NO DESCRIPTION OF IT It s just they tortured them and Terra being mad Like I hadn t even registered until I read another review that this would ve totally affected them but it had so little impact on anything that I just didn t get it hide spoiler
