An Unfinished Agenda review ¹ 104 From his birth in a village in andhra to founding and running dr Reddy's laboratories now one of india's largest pharmaceutical enterprises dr K Anji reddy's journey makes for an inspiring story That story is told rivetingly in his own words in his memoir an unfinished agenda Dr Anji reddy became an entrepreneur at a time whe. I normally stay away from autobiographies of desi tycoons Invariably written by the PR department and a friendly hack who does the word smithy they are all poorly written hagiographies Also remember reading one on a North based Pharma Company a numero uno once upon a time but now acuired by a smarter successful Mumbai based Pharma major which was badly written So carefully stayed away from all the books written on Maruti TCS and plenty of other successful Indian companies and also the autobiographies of Indian tycoons and super successful CEOs There is almost one book that comes out every month So when an authorized autobiography of Dr Anji Reddy hit the stands I was a bit wary about buying it not withstanding my respect for the man followed him closelyhe is from Hyderabad and the eponymous company he built which is like a gold standard in the Pharma Industry a la Infosys TCS Wipro of the IT industryAfter multiple good reviews that I read in the press finally got tempted to buy and was happy that I did If an autobiography can be classified as straight from the heart it is this oneI always had a great admiration towards first generation entrepreneurs Unlike the inheritors who built on the empires that their parents built these are people who instead of taking the straight and easy path of joining a large MNC well managed Indian company and building a cushy career for them like most of us are guilty of doing the first generation entrepreneurs need to be saluted for braving into uncharted and unheralded territories fraught with risk and uncertainty and building successful global businessesinto which possibly our next generation will work as dream companies Dr Reddy s laboratories is one such company and Dr Anji Reddy the iconic founder is one such manFrom life in a sleepy little town in Andhra to his graduation further studies and culminating in a PhD from NCL his early days with IDPL where he got grounded in the basics of Chemistry it is an interesting and eventful tale narrated in a breezy and honest manner Later the story takes us to his initial days with Uniloids for those from Himayat Nagar will remember this as the company with a green logo opposite Gayatri Bhavan now Minerva Coffee ShopThen later Standard Organics and finally finding his mettle as the founder of Dr Reddys The hardships of first generation entrepreneurs without political and economic backing of a powerful family comes across very well Later he builds on his initial success and the narrative seuentially takes us thru the various milestones building blocks of success debilitating missteps and failuresand over a period of 3 decades and the final consolidation and transformation into an immensely successful company which is also a great organization is vividly captured in this autobiographyMore than the chapters on business success what you remember from this autobiography is the immense amount of social good that Dr Reddy s does thru various foundations Dr Reddy the philanthropist is far inspiring While there are many successful entrepreneurs like him he must be the only one combining it with Philanthropy and giving back to society in eual measure The pioneering work done by Naandi the CSR wing of DRL is one of the most impressive NGOs in India His faith in the abilities of Indian scientists his passion for science his concern for developing affordable medicines for the poor and underserved sections of the society comes across very well Overall a very inspiring book Even if you are from the non pharma world you can go easy on the chapters where he writes about their success with Active Pharmaceutical Ingredientsindustry jargon for raw material for the tabletssyrups the book will serve as an inspiration and also introduce you to one of the lesser known Industrialists since all our energies are consumed by the IT barons who built a great company And a serious competitor to us in the market placeHe could have titled the book Straight from the Heart

An Unfinished Agenda review ¹ 104 N india was woefully short of technology to manufacture many basic medicines Then in barely three decades the indian pharmaceutical industry had grown to the point that india not only became self sufficient in medicine but also a supplier of affordable generic medicines to the world Dr Anji reddy provides a ringside view of t. The very first autobiography I have read by Indian Businessman This book is intriguing read and gave lot of insight on how pharmaceutical industry works in India It is inspiring to read about the business decisions bets Dr Reddy has taken to reach where they are today I would have loved to read about Thought Process behind all the decisions which were taken As an engineer by training I was difficult for me to understand the chemistry and the technical details Nonetheless a great read on pharmaceutical industry Dr Reddy s journey and how Indian pharmaceutical company can achieve global ambitions
