The Painted Lady Summary ✓ PDF, DOC, TXT, eBook or Kindle ePUB free Sixteen year old Frances Stuart arrives at the Restoration court to find her innocence and bea. I have to say this book really disappointed me I was looking forward to reading Frances story as I ve read lots of novels based around the other mistresses in Charles life but never read anything where Frances is the protagonist Firstly Frances is a young girl at the French court in exile with ueen Henrietta Maria and her family She is rescued from an incident involving looting soldiers by a young man the future Duke of Richmond It s love at first sight She travels to England to be in the household of the newly restored King Charles wife ueen Catherine He falls in love with her Considering that Frances is known as one of Charles mistresses she doesn t actually spend any time with him really It s all very odd The author has decided to portray Frances not as the naive and daft young girl that history shows us but as a brave and intelligent young woman Frances and the other Charles Stuart DoR continually cross paths Even though he marries twice after their initial meeting Frances dreams of marrying him and the life they could have together It s uite predictable I felt that not enough information was provided about the Great Fire and the conseuences that it had on England It s touched upon but that s it I also would ve liked to read about Frances sitting for the woman posing as Britannia but again it was touched on and that was it Barbara Palmer is given the usual treatment of manipulative scheming and wicked woman We hardly hear any mention at all of any other of Charles ladies Too many unbelievable things happened for me in this book Women duelling Frances nursing a plague victim Frances wondering around London alone and unchaperoned Small details are important and for me small inaccuracies spoil a book Of course Frances continues to deny the king He isn t happy He threatens her She doesn t care Then she runs away and gets married The end It took me a few attempts the finish this book I hate to leave a book half read I got there in the end and that s about all I can say I m afraid
