Summary If Only I Had Told Ad Told is Esther’s personal and very brave memoir that tells the truth about Orkney’s 1991 satanic sex scandal It is a shocking account of how two evil men and a flawed system let down not just a young girl but a whole communit. Prior to this book I knew absolutely nothing about the Orkney Islands scandal however if I did my perspective on the book would have changed completelyFor those reading who are not familiar with it then here s what you need to knowA family of many fought an unimaginable battle with the Orkney social care the children were taken away against their will unable to have any contact with family members and were all separated from each other The mother struggled throughout a number of court cases to win her children back unfortunately every hearing did not turn out her favour The factors that made this story so dreadful were that the social work department did not have any proof of allegations they accused the family of and they used an illegitimate uestioning system to the children in order to make them conform to what the social wanted to hear manipulating and threatening them to tell lies Throughout this book we learn of the story of one of the W children caught in this time of distress what her heartbreaking childhood consisted of and also howwhy everything happened The book is by far one of the most hard hitting novels I ve read I found myself forming an attachment with Esther and her family as I went through the journey with themA wonderful read and would recommend it to anyone
