The Overnight Kidnapper Summary ✓ eBook, ePUB or Kindle PDF Me from work has been held up at gunpoint chloroformed and kidnapped but then released just hours later unharmed and with all her possessions into the open countryside Later that day Montalbano hears from Enzo the owner of his favourite restaurant that his niece has recently been the victim of the exact same crime Before long a third instance of this baffling over. Camilleri has followed a successful and enjoyable formula for his Montalbano stories It consists of Montalbano s uirky personality the interplay between him and his team lots of humour and the occasional critical social comment from Camilleri s left leaning perspective In the TV version we also get the beautiful Sicilian sceneryThere is not much of the social comment in this story but otherwise it is the formula as usual And there is an intriguing whodunnit aspect to the plotI m a great fan of Montalbano but not an uncritical one A couple of Camilleri s books have felt like he was going through the motions a couple have contained themes or scenes which were too dark or distasteful for my liking and a couple have contained irritating paranormal incidentsThis latest book does contain descriptions of some grim violence particularly against women but otherwise it does not have many weaknesses It might not be one of the very best Montalbanos but I think that it s good enough to merit five stars rather than just four Seeing as I can t give it four and a halfThere is some nice writing in this book and I ll end with a couple of examples When Montalbano is sitting on his veranda pondering over the case the September evening is described as soothing and maternal And later when Montalbano has to go to a rubbish tip the hundreds of seagulls there are described as having sold their proud seafaring dignity to become miserable scroungers Recommended for Montalbano fans and for anyone who has not yet discovered the pleasures of entering Montalbano s worldPhil Webster

Read The Overnight Kidnapper

The Overnight Kidnapper Summary ✓ eBook, ePUB or Kindle PDF Night kidnapping has been reported As far as Montalbano can tell there is no link between the attacker and the victims So what exactly is this mystery assailant gaining from these fleeting kidnappings And what can he do to stop them Montalbano must use all his logic and intuition if he is to answer these pressing uestions before the kidnapper finds his next victim. As usual a very good read The storyline was good but it also showed how Montalbano is getting older and a little bit careless as well as how his team are adapting to this and supporting him He does solve the case but it shows how he lets some things slip a bit There is humour but there is a reduction in the detail of him as a person in this book I assume that Camilleri is setting us up for the finish eventually I hope he does it before he himself is incapable of writing any Sad but that s life I prefer Stephen Sartarelli s translation and I also prefer the illustration on this cover as compared to others I have the entire collection of his books and feel disgruntled when I can t maintain the aesthetics as well as enjoying the reading of them
